The integration conforms to the SAP order fulfilment process, covering order management, status reporting, electronic documentation and alerts. The first shipping company to be connected is Stolt Nielsen. Chem eStandards is an electronic communication standard for chemical shipping, developed by the CIDX Logistics Committee which Optimum participates in. ________ Grattan uses Bolero to manage electronic documentation http://www.bolero.net Grattan plc has completed its first air freight shipment managing the documentation over electronic documentation platform bolero.net. Grattan is part of Otto Versand, the world's largest mail order group and second largest online retailer after amazon.com. Otto commenced managing sea freight shipments out of Hong Kong into UK and Germany in November 2001; it estimates that over 90 per cent of Hong Kong consignments, about 7,000 per year, will be managed over bolero by the end of the first quarter next year. One of the main benefits of using the system, bolero says, is of being able to close the visibility gap between goods arriving for shipment and documentation being received by staff in Europe. This gap was leading to difficulties in predicting stock availability. ________ Exel to use INTTRA for supply chain management http://www.inttra.com Exel, a supply chain management solution company which controls the movement of 440,000 ocean container shipments annually, has decided to use shipping line backed portal INTTRA for its global sea freight operations. It will process bookings using INTTRA-ACT, the web-hosted portal system. It decided to use the system because of its already existing relationship with shipping lines CMA-CGM and MSC, which use INTTRA. ________ NYK Line completes GT Nexus integration http://www.nykline.com Shipping line NYK Line reports that it has completed its integration with shipping line online system GT Nexus. It is now possible to book NYK shipments over GT Nexus. ________ Baltic Exchange establishes freight market futures consultative group http://www.balticexchange.com The Baltic Exchange has established the Freight Market and Futures Consultative Group (FMFCG), to help development of its freight market information. The group is open to all members of the Baltic Exchange, providing users of the information with a clear line of communication to the Exchange, helping achieve wider consensus on matters such as new route definitions and market practise. ________ Evergreen, HATSU and Lloyd Triestino join US Customs anti-terrorism partnership http://www.evergreen.com Evergreen America Corporation (North America agents for shipping line Evergreen), along with shipping lines HATSU Marine and Lloyd Triestino, have signed agreements to join the US Customs Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT). All carriers involved in C-TPAT must complete a Customs "Sea Carrier Supply Chain Security Profile Questionnaire" which asks them to present an overview of their existing security programs. "It is important for our importers and exporters, our people ashore and afloat, those who handle our ships and containers, and the consumers of the world to know that every possible step is being taken to ensure their safety," said Evergreen America. ________ Management buyout at Fraser Williams Logistics http://www.fwltech.com Fraser Williams Logistics, a UK software company, has undergone a management buyout, now renamed FWL Technologies. There are no changes in the company management structure. The company will continue to focus totally on the global supply chain. The company recently launched new web based products. ________ Society of Maritime Industries gets online http://www.maritimeindustries.org The UK Society of Maritime Industries has launched a website at maritimeindustries.org. The ambition of the site is to serve as a business tool for UK shipbuilders, repairers, port developers, oil spill and pollution control and oil and gas operators, providing information about products and promote the strengths of the industries. The service is designed in partnership with First Marine International, with an information database provided by Lloyds Register-Fairplay. ________ **** SHIPBOARD ELECTRONICS **** Offshore Systems receives BSH type approval for ECDIS http://www.osl.com Offshore Systems International, an electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) manufacturer in Vancouver has received type approval from its ECDIS from BSH in Germany. Having type approval enables OSI to market its ECDIS to commercial fleet operators, rather than only naval customers. ________ SolaSolv to install bridge glare screens on icebreakers http://www.solasolv.com Kvaerner Masa Yards Arctic Research Centre in Helsinki will install SolaSolv bridge glare screens on its two double acting icebreaking tankers. The tankers are called "double acting" because they can break ice by going backwards through it and using the propeller. Solar Solve held what it believes to be the world's first seminar on "Solar Shading", in the UK in July 2002, covering health and safety, VDU equipment, avoiding solar gain, types of sunscreens, sensors and heat saving calculations. ________ KMSS to provide cargo monitoring systems for Petrobras http://www.kmss.no Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) has won orders to supply over $3m services and equipment to Brazilian shipping companies Petrobras and Metalnave. It will supply cargo monitoring systems for Petrobras floating production storage and offloading vessels, including 18 cargo tank radar antenna units, temperature sensors and gas pressure transmitters. It will supply $2m of Bridgeline Integrated Bridge Systems and Machinery Automation Systems for 3 LPG tankers owned by Metalnave. ________ CONRAC to launch GL approved slim shipboard screen at SMM http://www.conrac.de CONRAC, which manufacturers screen displays for onboard ships, will launch a Germanischer Lloyd approved 18.1 flat panel monitor at this year's SMM show in Hamburg, specially designed for shipboard use. The display has maximum resolution of 1280 by 1024 pixels. CONRAC has also introduced an ECDIS approved monitor, 6023 SD, specially designed for electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS). ________ IMO recommends ships bridges have sunscreens http://www.solasolv.com In the International Management Code for Safe Operation of Ships, brought into force by the IMO on July 1 2002, there is a guideline about installing removable sunscreens in front of ships bridges. "To ensure a clear view and to avoid reflections in bright sunshine, sunscreens with minimum colour distortion should be provided at all windows. The software has a Sounding/Ullage Correction table, with easy adjustment of Autohydro soundings and ullages, to ensure exact correlation with loading manual data tables. There is a Condition Summary Report, with a summary table for displacement, trim, drafts and so on for use in stability booklet conditions. The new software supports SI units (kg, N, m), in particular it can show shear force in KN and bending moments in KN-m. The tools can be accessed over the internet, with free trials available. ________ KMSS completes simulation users conference http://www.kmss.no Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) has completed its 15th annual simulation users conference in Tonsberg, Norway, on June 16-21, with over 100 participants, of which 75 were KMSS customers. KMSS held an e-education workshop as part of the conference, demonstrating training and e-learning tools. "The next generation of ship captains and first engineers are growing up with joy sticks and point and click devices," says Per Branstad, president of KMSS. "The competence requirements are the same but their expectations are different. It is also true that how this new generation will learn, will be different." As part of the e-education workshop, KMSS presented a suite of products for the deployment of SCORM and AICC compliant courseware and fully integrated simulation (Navigation and Engineering) over the internet, enabling students to run a full simulation exercise, including interactive ship instruments, full radar and visuals from a laptop. The product has embedded evaluation and assessment tools, including electronic coaching. ________ Transas upgrades its ECDIS system http://www.transas.com Maritime software company Transas has upgraded its marine navigation and information system Navi-Sailor 3000. The new version is in line with IMO regulations for the AIS interface, with capability to send, receive and display UAIS transponder information as required by the IMO. The Navi-Sailor has full integration of chart, weather, tidal, AIS and radar data on a single display. ________ Poseidon Simulation wins $2m order from Nigeria http://www.poseidon.no Norwegian maritime simulators company Poseidon has won what it says is its biggest ever order, to supply simulators to Nigeria.
