ILO agrees on standard seafarer ID cards http://www.ilo.org The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has agreed on the standard for seafarer identity card. They will have two seafarers' fingerprints turned into a standard 2 dimensional barcode. There will be no photograph. ILO expects that the cards will be handled by 1.2m maritime workers, under the Seafarers' Identity Documents Convention, 2003 (No. 185) (Note 1), adopted by the International Labour Conference last June. This paves the way for countries to start ratifying the convention and issuing seafarer identification cards conforming to the standard. The standard system for creating the template picture and converting it to a barcode will be submitted to the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).
