Canadian Hydrographic Service agrees Jeppesen deal
(May 21 2009)
Jeppesen Marine reports that it has signed two new licence agreements with the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) to collaborate on a range of electronic navigational data products.
The first is a CHS Value-Added Reseller (VAR) agreement authorising Jeppesen Marine to integrate CHS products and updates into its own products for the marine industry.
The second agreement makes Jeppesen Marine an authorised dealer of official Canadian Hydrographic Service Digital Charts, including CHS Electronic Navigational Charts (ENCs) and BSB raster charts, and also allows Jeppesen to issue CHS ENCs in type-approved SENC format.
“Jeppesen Marine’s products are popular in the Canadian marketplace,” said Dr Savithri Narayanan, CHS Dominion Hydrographer.
“And, as long as distributors can document to us that their SENC distribution format is type-approved, they will also be able to distribute our official charts as SENCs.”
The agreement is one of only a handful of value-added reseller agreements the Canadian Hydrographic Service has signed with manufacturers, allowing them to use CHS products and data in their own value-added products.
Jeppesen Marine notes that it has already signed similar ENC distribution agreements with hydrographic offices in India, China, most of Europe, the United States and many other countries.
The company also says that any customers who currently purchase CHS charts via the Primar RENC (Regional ENC centre) will continue to be able to do so.
Hilton Cowie, business operations – high seas division, Jeppesen Marine, commented: “Thanks to this direct agreement with a leading ENC provider, Jeppesen Marine will be able to provide navigators with high-quality CHS digital charts and updates in an efficient and user-friendly manner.”
“Our customers will now be able to take full advantage of the quickness and ease of our type-approved SENC distribution format, when they operate in Canadian waters.”
