Columbia agrees fleetwide ChartCo deal
(May 21 2009)
Columbia Shipmanagement has agreed a deal with ChartCo for the provision of ChartManager services for its entire fleet of 140 vessels.
The agreement includes update services for digital Notices to Mariners and chart corrections, with data delivered via ChartCo's own broadcast service and ChartCo Select, an internet and e-mail based delivery system.
The software provided allows vessels to manage their corrections onboard, and includes a full catalogue of products, updated weekly, to allow the ships to manage and update their own systems. The deal also includes full implementation, installation and support services.
"We see effective management of chart corrections as a major enhancement to vessel safety and as a result it is very high on our agenda," said Leonid Zalenski, marine manager at Columbia Shipmanagement in Cyprus.
"ChartCo provide us with the reliable and timely delivery of correction data meaning that our vessels are always able to maintain chart integrity, [and the] software also provides a full audit trail of corrections meeting the requirements of port state control and other inspecting authorities.”
“Furthermore, all weekly correction data is delivered to the vessels for an all-inclusive price, so there are no airtime costs to worry about. Implementation has already commenced and will continue over the coming weeks."
Chris Wilson, ChartCo sales manager, also commented: “ChartCo is an excellent fit for the diverse requirements of a large fleet, such as [Columbia's], as services can be delivered in different ways according to the communications equipment available on-board each vessel.”
“[The system] provides automatic reception of the weekly Notice to Mariners and chart corrections issued by the UK Hydrographic Office, [and] most CSM vessels will also take advantage of ChartCo’s Broadcast Service, which allows them instant access to large volumes of weekly chart correction data at no additional charge.”
