France Telecom Marine operates three cable ships based in France and operates another cable ship based in Capetown through a subsidiary. It also operates marine bases in La Seyne and Brest where the cable depot is located. France Telecom Marine's history stretches back to 1860, when the French Ministry of Posts and Telegraph was first involved in the installation and maintenance of submarine cables.

Tasos Makris is Information Systems Director with Gourdomichalis Maritime, which currently manages 3 Greek flagged Japanese built sister panamax vessels delivered in '99, '04 and '05, 1 Supramax vessel delivered in late September ’09 ex-China with a Marshal islands flag. As part of the company's second New Building program, 2 Supramax vessels of 57,000 tons each and 1 Panamax vessel of 83,000 tons will delivered in 2010. He holds a Masters of Computer Science and has worked in the Health sector in the U.K. and in the Greek Industry Automation Sector before joining the Maritime Sector in 1993. He is strongly interested in Human Computer Interface and Software Usability principles, as a means to improve the quality of software and human productivity. He is a founding member and member of BOD of AMMITEC, a member of the Hellenic Managers Association (EEDE) and a member of the Usability Professionals Association.

Giampiero Soncini is CEO of software company SpecTec, the world's largest maritime software company. He has led the development of Shipdex, a new standard protocol for ship technical information, which should avoid the need to use paper manuals and drawings on ships. He spent 14 years in the Italian Navy and 12 years at NATO, where he acted as a technical manager for research vessels, one of which was the first vessel with GPS and an INS.

Key responsibilities in Dorian include the continuous promotion of a proactive HSE culture, the implementation and continuous upgrading of the company's integrated management system, the identification and integration of customer and industry requirements into the company's management system, overseeing the company's shore and seagoing staff training schemes and performing the DPA and CSO functions.

Using new GPS / GLONASS technology in berthing maneouvres and trim management
Mark Howells is a senior engineer at Fugro Seastar AS in Oslo. Since joining the company he has focused on bringing the MarineSTAR manoeuvring system from concept to a market-ready product. MarineSTAR uses the latest differential GPS and GLONASS technology to present highly precise quay distance measurements during berthing, in addition to information such as heading, speed, rate of turn and trim.

Peter Blackhurst is head of safety services at Inmarsat, responsible for Inmarsat’s provision of GMDSS. He also has liaison responsibilities for safety and security transmission through SafetyNET, FleetNET, EGC, LRIT, SSAS and development of new technologies. He was previously senior technical standards manager and policy lead for Communications and Navigational equipment at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency. He has also had a spell as Chief Radio Surveyor for the UK administration. He has been a radio officer with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Safmarine.
