8th Digital Ship Athens 2010 - December 1-2

Digital Ship Athens is where some of the world's most advanced maritime digital technology meets some of the world's largest and most demanding customers - and we all discover how well it works.

This year we are moving to a new venue, the Athinais Cultural Centre, in the Keramikos region of Athens - just North West of the centre.

SPECIAL SESSIONS THIS YEAR

Can you save shipping companies on their total cost of maritime satellite communications and IT? We invite people from technology companies who believe they can help shipping companies to reduce their total costs, to make a 10 min presentation in this session.

How do the VSAT technologies compare panel session. We invite representatives of the VSAT providers to participate in a panel discussion session, to review how the different technologies compare, and how shipping companies should set about making their choice, if they are interested in evaluating VSAT.

Tasos Makris, information systems director, Gourdomichalis Maritime, and board director, AMMITEC
There are around 7 different shipboard messaging software on the market, gathering together messages from SMS, e-mail, telex and fax. How do they compare? The results of the study will be made available to all AMMITEC members to help them select the best ship-shore messaging software.

Other topics we anticipate covering this year include:

- Shipping companies talk about their experiences using VSAT

- Can you run software on the web - and are normal office internet connections fast enough?

- New developments with collaboration tools, maintenance, purchasing and document management

- Keeping up to date on vessels using your cellphones

- Does the Deepwater Horizon disaster impact tanker operations to the US, particularly in regards to limited liability?

- AMMITEC annual general meeting on day 1, 4pm to 6pm

- Dinner in local taverna for everybody

- VSAT technology showcase - round-up of the main VSAT solution providers

Exhibition opportunities - please contact Ria Kontogeorgou on ria@thedigitalship.com or telephone +44 207 510 0015. (Ria is based in Athens until the end of August 2010).

Please send any program ideas to Karl Jeffery, conference producer, on jeffery@thedigitalship.com

NOTE: we try to plan for most of the speakers to be from Greek shipping companies and have very limited program space available for technology companies.

If you are from a technology company and would like to participate, it would be better if you could convince one of your shipping company clients to talk about your technology, talking either by themselves or in a joint presentation with the technology company.
