The principal role of ICS is to represent the views of shipowners, world-wide, at the International Maritime Organisation and in other international fora. Amongst the many issues on the IMO agenda, Mr Hinchliffe was engaged in the security debate that led to the development of the ISPS Code and has contributed to the debate on LRIT from its inception. is general manager (marine) with the International Chamber of Shipping. His first career was with the UK Royal Navy, including five years in seagoing command.

Andreas I. Chrysostomou is chairman of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee. He is also chairman of the Assembly of the International Mobile Satellite Organisation (IMSO). He is a member of the board of governors of the World Maritime University (WMU). From 1999 to 2003 he was chairman of the "Design and Equipment" subcommittee of IMO. Before that he was a marine surveyor with Cyprus Department of Merchant Shipping. He has a BEng in naval architecture and shipbuilding and an MBA from the University of Newcastle (UK).
