His Excellency Mr. Kikis Kazamias, Minister of Communications and Works, Republic
of Cyprus
Mr. Kikis Kazamias has been an elected member of the Central Committee of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) since 1990.
In 1997 he became Director General of the Co-Operative Consumer Society of Limassol and from 1999 until his appointment as Minister of Communications and Works he was also president of the Investment Group of the Co-Operative Consumer Societies "Lefkoniko".
In 1991 he was elected Member of the House of Representatives standing as a Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) candidate and he was re-elected in 1996.
For ten years he was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Financial and Budgetary Affairs, the Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism and the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs. He was also a member of the Joint Parliamentary Committee of Cyprus and the European Union.
He represented the House in many international meetings abroad.
In December 2001 he was elected Mayor of Famagusta standing as the candidate of the Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL), but receiving votes from all parties. He was the president of the Committee of the Occupied Municipalities of Cyprus and the 1st Vice-President of the Union of Cyprus Municipalities.

Andreas Droussiotis, President, Cyprus Shipping Council
Andreas Droussiotis is managing director of Hanseatic Shipping, Cyprus. He was born in Limassol and has worked for Hanseatic since 1974 as chief accountant, financial manager, assistant managing director and ultimately managing Director.
He is a member in the Executive Committee of ISMA for the last ten years and also a member in the Executive Committee of the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA) where he also served as President in the years 1999 to 2001.

The Department of Merchant Shipping is responsible for registration of ships, administration of the Merchant Shipping Laws, control of shipping and enforcement of international conventions, investigation of casualties, resolving labour disputes on board Cypriot ships and training and certification of seafarers.
Cyprus is the sixth biggest merchant nation in the word, with a merchant fleet exceeding 26 million gross tons.

Pole Star Space Applications is a company established in 1998 to provide tracking services for mobile objects, including merchant shipping. It produces the DSAS ship security alert system, which enables shipping companies to comply with the ISPS ship alert system requirements consisting of a compact integrated Inmarsat/GPS transceiver, power management unit and back-up batteries, constructed within a ruggedised polycarbonate enclosure in turn protected by a stainless steel casing, and having multiple external panic alarm points. Of portable dimensions, the DSAS unit is easily installed, and with no visible external antenna the unit does not resemble typical Satcom equipment, therefore with such a degree of concealment is likely to escape hijacker/terrorist attention.

Unicom Management Services Unicom provides technical management and crewing services for 82 vessels.
It is the shipmanagement arm of Russian shipping company Sovomflot, which has 39 tankers (crude oil carriers, petroleum product tankers and multipurpose ships), 18 bulkers and 2 passenger vessels.
Unicom also manages 11 vessels for Lukoil Arctic Tankers and vessels for a number of Swiss, Italian and Russian shipowners. The company has its own software system, "Marine Integrated Software System", with modules running onboard and ashore.
