Inmarsat operates the satellite communications system used by most of the world's merchant shipping fleet which also forms the backbone of global GMDSS provision. Peter Hamer is currently Area Manager of DNV Middle East. After a career at sea Peter Hamer completed a degree in Naval Architecture at Newcastle University in 1991 and has since spent 18 years with DNV as a Surveyor/Auditor, Offshore Project Manager and Consultant. In 1998 he moved to Africa as Country Manager for DNV Africa where he set up DNV operations in several West African Countries. In 2006 he moved to DNV Qatar as District Manager and took over from Eivind Grostad as Middle East Manager on 1st January 2009

Captain Ravi Dey is manager tanker operations / DPA, Emarat Maritime. He has 20 years seagoing experience on various types of tankers and 8 years in the dry cargo fleet, including 15 years as master. He sailed with Great Eastern Shipping Company (1975-1984), then joined V.Ships, where in 1995 he was involved in getting V.Ships' first ever safety management certificate. In 1999 he joined Tschudi and Eitzen Ship Management Alliance (TESMA), sailing until 2003, when he came ashore to join Emarat Maritime.

Mr Mookherjee is managing director of Vegaship Management. He was previously operations manager of International Tanker Management. Vegaship Management was founded in July 2008 under license from Dubai Maritime City. It has 23 vessels under post fixture management including chemical and gas tankers. Other services include post fixture work for Time Charterers; port captaincy / loss control / bunker investigations for time charterers; maritime consultancy - Evaluation of ports / terminals.

Captain Ja’afar bin Sidin is director of Dubai Maritime City Campus, a multimillion dollar project to build a maritime campus in Dubai Maritime City, that will house selected reknown international maritime universities and reputable training providers. The Campus will have the state-of-art facilities and will complement the maritime cluster that is being developed in Dubai Maritime City. He is also responsible for the founding of the Emirates International Maritime Academy which is the first maritime institution of its kind in the United Arab Emirates. Captain Ja’afar began his maritime career as a deck cadet with Ocean Fleets Ltd, Liverpool, United Kingdom in 1971. He later served as a master with Thome Pte Ltd. He later held the position of deputy director of Singapore Maritime Academy, Singapore Polytechnic. Capt Ja’afar served as a member of the International Maritime Organisation Group of Consultants for the redrafting of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers 1978, as revised STCW 95.

Matthew Hodkinson is product manager and business analyst, SpecTec, the world's largest maritime software company. He was previously group safety manager, ASP Shipmanagement, Melbourne. Matthew joined ASP Ship Management in 1995 and served through the ranks on a number of ship types before settling into the tanker side of the business. After a period of secondment ashore to Exxon Mobil as Marine Superintendent, Matthew entered the ASP Melbourne Office to implement the ISPS Code. In March 2005 he was appoint Group Safety Manager and assigned the task of consolidating the various safety and quality management systems in place.

Willy Zeiler is marketing manager of Jeppesen Marine, which is part of Boeing. Jeppesen is the world's largest supplier of charts to aviation, and entered the maritime market following its acquisition of charts supplier C-MAP in January 2007. Willy Zeiler was previously marketing manager of C-MAP.
