e-Navigation is the IMO initiative for the harmonised collection, integration, exchange, presentation and analysis of marine information onboard and ashore by electronic means, to enhance berth to berth navigation and related service for safety and security at sea and protection of the marine environment.
Fundamental areas of development for e-Navigation will be communication networks, improved information presentation, system integrity, and analysis functions. Should these developments stay solely focused on safety of navigation, or are there synergies with commercial operations that should be explored?
