V-Sat - Is there more to it than Email and Internet Access? |
click for details... |
- Apart from the obvious services like email and internet access, what other opportunities are waiting for us?
Normally V-Sat is fitted to grant the ship’s crew access to internet for welfare reasons, and to provide e-mail and cheaper voice traffic for the ships administration. From there the step to improve the bonds and collaboration between ship and shore organisation is not far away. In addition, ships today are floating treasures when it comes to information waiting to be harvested. Let's have a look at what can be found onboard the ship and how this can be utilized by the shore organisation.

Hurtigruten ”Minute by Minute” |
click for details... |
NRK, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation gave, in June 2011 a live TV transmission from the coastal express, Hurtigruten. Not only for an evening show, but in fact covered the whole 134-hour journey from Bergen to Kirkenes. Live on a national TV-channel. And it became not only a TV-program, but also a national event.
But how was it possible to do a live TV- transmission as “MS Nordnorge” was sailing near 3000km along the Norwegian coast? And who did the TV-production onboard? This lecture will give you some insight behind the cameras.

E-Purchasing Panel Discussion |
click for details... |
After a decade of development, e-commerce has finally broken through the initial scepticism to become a vital tool for shipowners, shipmanagers and shipyards in their sourcing and procurement process.
There has been a noticeable shift in attitude in the 18 months as focus moves to operational costs and users start asking how they can use e-commerce to drive down costs, rather than why they should use it.
This session looks at how e-commerce has been adopted and used by both leading shipowners and suppliers in the Norwegian market.
It will highlight what barriers they have overcome to adopt e-commerce and the key benefits it brings to both shipowners and suppliers of products and services.
It will also look forward to the next ten years and how the ship supply chain will become further integrated and what role maritime software providers will play in the procurement process.
