PROGRAM IN DEPTH
12 months after the original launch of Inmarsat Fleet,
we bring you reports from the market about how much it actually managed
to add value in the maritime industry and what shipping companies'
experience with it to date is.
We look at which software applications create the most value, including
shipboard procurement, shipboard intranet access, navigation information
and remote monitoring, and look at the issues involved with getting
Fleet terminals onboard ships. How should shipping companies choose
Fleet 33, 55 or 77?
Keep up with the latest market initiatives, ideas and shipping line
perspective on Inmarsat Fleet, a ship shore communications technology
developed by Inmarsat which allows always on data connections at low
cost as well as lower cost higher bandwidth ship shore data transfer.
The conference runs over two days, with the first day geared to applications
for Inmarsat Fleet (hydrographic data onboard, remote ship monitoring,
automating shipboard paperwork and moving management tasks on shore).
The second day is geared to installing Inmarsat Fleet onboard vessels,
including the choice of terminal to replace Inmarast -As when they
become obsolete in 2007, and the choice between Inmarsat 33, 55, 77,
with the playoff between shipboard terminal capital costs and communications
savings.

9.15
am
A SHIPOWNER'S PERSPECTIVE WITH
INMARSAT FLEET
Adonis Violaris, communications and public relations manager, Hanseatic
Shipping and chairman of the Cyprus Shipping Council ICT working group
Hanseatic's experience with Inmarsat Fleet so far - what are the
advantages and what are the disadvantages? What can shipping companies
expect from a Fleet 77 installation?
9.45 INTEGRATING THE SHIP INTO COMMUNICATIONS WITH BROKERS AND CHARTERERS
Alf Oppoyen, chief technology officer, LAYCAN
Gathering data from the vessel about ship position, estimated
time of arrival and fuel consumption and making this available
to charterers over a web application
10.15 SESSION: USING INMARSAT FLEET IN MARITIME NAVIGATION
How additional data onboard can help in maritime navigation
George Arts, owner, Marine Press
of Canada
* Using shore based services which choose the right data files to
send you, depending on the ship's trading patterns and inventory.
Setting up systems whereby the base information is already onboard
the ship but customised correction information is sent out to specific
ships as required.
* Enabling seafarers to receive the required Notices to Marines and
Digital List of Lights without browsing web sites of many hydrographic
offices. Enabling better control of the information has been delivered
on board.

onboard vessels and what is the best way to use it?
Nick
Tasker, product manager digital publications, UK
Hydrographic Office
Vikki Pow, web services product manager, UK
Hydrographic Office
11.15 BREAK
SESSION: USING INMARSAT FLEET IN SHIP OPERATIONS
11.45 REMOTE MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE OF SHIPS
Jan Herberg, director,
Herberg Engineering
Seafarers have much less time for maintenance, service and repair
tasks onboard, due to crew reductions and tigh schedules. A solution
is to move some of this workload onto shore, continuously communicating
data between ship and shore over Inmarsat Fleet.
The vessel changes from a single isolated system intao a variedly
connected communication node within a set of worldwide networks. What
are the most useful tools to help achieve this?
12.15 WEATHER ROUTING DATA ONBOARD VESSELS
Dr
ING Thomas Weber, WNI OceanRoutes
How did weather routing software perform on the Inmarsat Fleet trials,
including with Maersk, p&O Nedlloyd, Columbia University and Golden
Union Shipping Co?
An Inmarsat Fleet-specific initiative to help ship's plan their routes
online with real time weather information.
12.45 LUNCH
AFTERNOON SESSION: SHIPBOARD INTRANETS AND DATA COMMUNICATION SERVICES
2.00 GAINING BUSINESS ADVANTAGES THROUGH SHIPBOARD INTERNET ACCESS
