Bid for items for sale at your next port of call
Basically lets you buy and sell things on the Internet – sellers put up items for sale and set a minimum price, then an auction is opened in which buyers bid for a fixed time, and the winning bid takes the item. Sellers are obligated under the eBay agreement to sell if they receive a bid above the minimum price, as are buyers obligated to pay.
The range of goods is as wide as people’s interests. The great thing about this site is that real people are selling what they think someone else might want, which often means that it is just what you are looking for.
eBay has international branches all around the world, including Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia and New Zealand. There is also a range of on-line stores selling regular high street stuff.
To protect users from fraud, there is a range of measures including a user “reputation” rating, detailing any times this user has failed to obey the rules, free $200 cover on most items, and an optional ID verification service.
EBay is as big as they get on the Internet and an excellent service for seafarers, who can pick up goods all round the world, to take advantage of.
