International chamber of shipping helps improve knowledge of key issues such as piracy

The International Chamber of Shipping and International Shipping Federation website provides information about regulatory and other issues affecting merchant shipping.

The “Key Issues” section presents a wide range of resources discussing contemporary issues such as the loss of the Prestige, ISM code developments, AIS systems and many other topics. You can also read Mariscene, the organisation’s newsletter.

ICS/ISF has a wide range of publications including manuals such as “Pirates & Armed robbers – a master’s guide” and CD-ROM learning resources.

Two sections of special interest are the maritime security key issue and the piracy guidance pages. There is an updated 2003 key issue covering piracy, and guidance material as an aid for masters whose ships may be liable to attack, and to assist shipping companies in drawing up their own, more detailed, security measures.
