International Federation of Shipmasters' Associations

Helping to uphold competency standards for a safer life at sea

The IFSMA is a non-profit making organisation that was formed from the merger of several shipmasters’ associations in 1974. It has strong links with the IMO and purposes to uphold international competency standards to ensure safety of life at sea.

The web content centres on the newsletters with an archive of past editions. The newsletters are large documents (the most recent of 33 pages) in Acrobat (pdf) format, making them large files of around 500kb to download.

The register of technical consultants and maritime experts enables users to search for contact details and get in touch with registered persons who offer consultancy services. The database can be searched by four categories: ship type, management & operations, administrative & commercial and maritime safety.

The site is a useful resource for safety related issues, and not just for shipmasters.
