Weekly piracy reporting scheme
The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) piracy reporting centre works to combat piracy on the high seas worldwide. It already broadcasts daily bulletins to ships via Inmarsat C, detailing attacks on vessels and suspicious vessel movements. This information is now available via the Internet, with a weekly update of reported occurrences that keeps ships on the alert in dangerous waters.
The IMB also assists with locating a hijacked vessel and recovery of goods. Full legal services are available for any form of fraud or piracy including investigation of suspicious cargo losses from containers during sea, road and rail transits and advice on bill of lading/charter party disputes. These services can often lead to debt recovery.
A monthly newsletter contains information on the latest frauds, crime prevention techniques, and commercial crime trials. It also covers general maritime news and a list of conferences.
A lot of other information about piracy, commercial crime and the International Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the site, is also available on the web. This is an excellent resource for improving safety at sea and for advice on maritime crime.
