The ITF has been helping seafarers since 1896 and today represents the interests of seafarers worldwide, of whom over 600,000 are members of ITF affiliated unions.

ITF involvement includes:

assisting seafarers

policy making through committees where affiliated unions are represented

The ITF seafarers trust was established in 1981, it is dedicated to the spiritual, moral and physical welfare of seafarers irrespective of nationality, race or creed. Among other things it provides news and also sports news for seafarers, some publications online about seafarer health and a glossary of seafarer welfare services.
