Iridium has announced the commercial launch of its Iridium Certus L-band satcom service following the successful completion of the final launch in its $3 billion Iridium NEXT constellation refresh programme, which has seen 75 satellites launched in just under two years.

Epic Gas Ship Management signs with GNS

GNS has completed the roll-out of a range of digital navigation systems and products to the fleet of Singapore-based Epic Gas Ship Management, following the award of a new contract.

Iridium has completed the final launch in its NEXT programme, with all 75 planned satellites now deployed for its second generation L-band low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite network following a successful launch of the final 10 satellites in the series on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from California.

IB rebrands and welcomes new CEO

Italy-based maritime software company Gruppo IB, developer of the InfoSHIP fleet management application, has rebranded itself with a new name and logo, with the company to be called ‘IB - Influencing Business’. The rebrand was announced as the company welcomed former SpecTec boss Giampiero Soncini as its new CEO.

Marlink extends Transpetrol contract

Tanker owner Transpetrol has signed a renewal of its VSAT contract with Marlink, which will see the vessel operator expand its use of the Sealink VSAT service to its the entire tanker fleet, as well as two planned newbuildings due for delivery within the next 18 months.

Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) reports that it has completed an assessment and feasibility study on a new navigation support system in conjunction with Japan’s National Maritime Research Institute (NMRI) and the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology (TUMSAT), using an NMRI-owned ship handling risk simulator.
