WinGD standardises digital data with Shipdex

Marine engine designer Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) has announced its intention to begin supplying technical documentation in accordance with Shipdex standards, a set of specifications for digital data exchange adapted for the maritime sector from the S1000D specification applied in the aerospace and defence industry.

Royston expands fuel monitoring system

Royston Diesel Power has added to its enginei fuel management system with the addition of a new module offering improved monitoring of onboard and onshore fuel tank inventories.

Caterpillar Marine has launched a new Multi-Engine Optimizer (MEO) tool, which uses proprietary performance data and control algorithms to provide intelligence for power management systems, which can be applied to improving fuel efficiency by more precisely balancing engine loads.

ABB acquires Tekomar

ABB Turbo Systems has signed an agreement to acquire the Tekomar Group, headquartered in Winterthur, Switzerland, with the aim of adding Tekomar’s digital system for engine analytics and advisory systems to its ABB Ability maritime digital services portfolio.

GasLog in engine optimisation deal

Monaco-based GasLog LNG Services has signed a remote maintenance and optimisation agreement with Wärtsilä, covering eight LNG carriers operating on Wärtsilä dual-fuel engines.

Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD) and partner Enamor Ltd of Gdynia, Poland, have jointly launched a new data collection and monitoring (DCM) platform, developed under a collaboration agreement between the companies signed earlier this year.

Engine data system upgraded

Icon Research and CENSIS, the Scottish Innovation Centre for Sensor and Imaging Systems, have developed a new algorithm which they claim can increase the efficiency of ship diesel engines by more accurately tracking data relating to the position of pistons within the engine’s cylinders.

Wärtsilä and ABB have signed an agreement to expand their cooperation in lifecycle service offerings, covering ABB turbochargers installed with Wärtsilä 4-stroke engines, to assist in optimising the performance of the equipment on board.

The freight ferry Stena Scotia, operated by Stena Line, has completed implementation of ABB’s DEGO IV speed governor and actuation software package, used to control the vessel’s propulsion system and reduce fuel consumption by minimising roll and rudder movements.

Wärtsilä and US-based cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) have signed a renewal of their existing performance-based service agreement, under which Wärtsilä’s range of digital monitoring services will be deployed to ensure that the engines on board 10 NCLH cruise ships run at optimum performance levels.
