SES moves to complete O3b acquisition

Satellite operator SES has exercised its call option on the stock of O3b Networks, and has now offered to acquire all the remaining shares of O3b, having reached agreement with all other shareholders and gained the necessary regulatory approvals. The completion of the transaction is expected on 1 August 2016.

Marlink and SpeedCast have signed new ‘strategic alliances’ with Inmarsat, under which both satcom service providers have committed to each introducing approximately 2,000 vessels to Inmarsat’s new Fleet Xpress service over a five-year period – a total of some 4,000 new ships for the Ka-band VSAT service.

KNS launches new maritime VSAT antennas

Korean satellite antenna manufacturer KNS, has announced a series of new antennas in a variety of different bands aimed at a range of different vertical sectors, including commercial shipping, fishing and leisure craft.

Telesat aims for global Ka-band network

Satellite operator Telesat  reports that it has procured two prototype Ka-band satellites for operation in low Earth orbit (LEO), which it anticipates launching mid-to-late 2017 as part of a test and validation phase for a global LEO satellite constellation.

Inmarsat, Cobham SATCOM and Beijing Marine Communication & Navigation Company (MCN) have announced the largest Fleet Xpress installation project to date, with Nanjing Tanker Corporation (NTC) of China to outfit 70 ships with the Ka-band VSAT service.

Inmarsat has announced the full commercial launch of Fleet Xpress, the maritime broadband service operating over its Global Xpress Ka-band network, backed by L-band FleetBroadband as a back-up.
