AIS satellite passes testing

Satellite AIS provider exactEarth reports that it has successfully completed the payload performance testing of its latest AIS satellite, exactView-1 (EV-1), which was launched into orbit in July 2012.

ORBCOMM's attempts to launch the first of its second generation OG2 satellites, carrying technology that will support its space-based AIS service, were thwarted when a problem with the operation of the launch vehicle led to the satellite being deployed in the wrong orbit.

EMSA agrees satellite-AIS deal

ORBCOMM has agreed a multi-year framework contract with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) for the provision of satellite Automatic Identification System (AIS) data.

Satellite AIS data provider exactEarth has announced the release of a new product, exactAIS Premium, combining satellite and terrestrial-based sources of data in order to provide detailed global information on ship location.
