9:40 The Changing Role of the CIO
Information technology has the power to influence industries and transform how business is done. Leading maritime companies are already tapping into that power and using technology to rethink critical issues such as business strategies, processes, and management practices. IT and communications has the power to reshape companies and cultures, to redefine infrastructures and product portfolios and, perhaps most important, to achieve exceptional business results.
At the very centre of this transformation are today's Chief Information Officers. Today expectations for a CIO are much, much higher than they have ever been. Today's CIO is a business leader—not just an IT manager—steering a mission-critical function as large and complex as any operation in the company, working side by side with business and operational units to help improve performance and efficiency and drive innovation and change.
What does this mean to your business? How can you ensure you are driving the right changes and technology through and how can you make sure your role is aligned to that of the business.
Giampiero Soncini, CEO, SpecTec

In the global logistics field, the ability to provide prompt services to customers is necessary. The support of IT systems is necessary for these strategies. Moreover, technology that helps ensure safe operations adds to our differentiation. Achieving differentiation requires that we go beyond the framework of the traditional shipping company and look to use technology and communications strategically to drive the business forward.

The choice of satellite communications systems available in the maritime market is greater than it has ever been, but the vast differences between competing technologies make choosing between them harder than ever. Whether it's VSAT, Inmarsat or Iridium; CIR or a best-effort service; Ku- or Ka-band – the most important aspect of the decision is choosing the system that works best in your own particular circumstances.
How are the various suppliers looking to develop their offerings to meet the demands of today's maritime industry? This panel will offer you the opportunity to pose your questions to the leading providers in today's market and find out what solutions are going to drive your business into the future.
