Furuno today announced that its NavSkills network of training centres has been expanded with a further two locations in Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) and Mola di Bari (Italy).

The NavSkills concept ensures that type-specific ECDIS training is conducted in the same way, with the same content and duration and using the same teaching methods as employed by Furuno in its own training centres, in Denmark and Singapore.

The Emirati centre has been set up by Imtech Marine/Radio Holland Middle East, a long-term exclusive distributor of Furuno. The facility in Sharjah, a hub for the tanker industry, can provide training on both the FEA-2X07 and FMD-3200/3300 ECDIS models, with a capacity of four simultaneous FEA-trainees and 2 FMD-trainees.

The new NavSkills member in Italy is Thesi Consulting, a family-operated training centre located on the Adriactic coast. It has set up a Furuno ECDIS training solution with 4 FEA-2X07 and 2 FMD-3200/3300 trainee workstations, identical to the one in the UAE.

Furuno, a Japanese ECDIS manufacturer, says that its NavSkills network helps ship operators find a training centre that offers type-specific training close to where they find their navigators. All the training material is in English, but the trained instructor speaks the local language, allowing for questions and answers to be conducted in that language.

Furuno type-specific ECDIS training can now be found in: Copenhagen, Singapore, Hamburg, Athens, Istanbul, Manila, Mumbai, Shanghai, Odessa, Sharjah and Mola di Bari. The NavSkills network is expected to soon welcome Australian centre Pivot Maritime.
