The newbuild programme includes six 18,000 TEU vessels and eleven 14,000 TEU vessels.
Dubai-based UASC is deploying a web-based fleet management system and electronic document handling systems on these new ships. It also wants to enhance crew welfare by allowing them to stay in touch with family and friends on the phone, by email or other online applications.
Wavecall Plus combines Ku-band VSAT with L-band. It is part of the AuroraGlobal multi-band satellite communications portfolio. Marlink says that the connectivity is future proof for High Throughput Satellite (HTS) services when available.
“Our new vessels will be the most environmental friendly ships in the industry,” said Mohamed Zaitoun, assistant vice president New Building Technical Projects, UASC.
“WaveCall Plus will provide the IP backbone for the technology and processes UASC is using to revolutionise the way it operates,” said Oznur Ece, account manager, Marlink. “WaveCall Plus will also support the company’s green credentials, positioning it as a quality service provider in the heavily regulated and highly competitive containership market.”
