The portal allows seafarers to access CrewCommCenter webmail, share photos and wall updates, play online games, video chat with friends and family on shore, and shop with world-wide delivery.
SMSGlobal says that the video chat feature is optimised to work with the inherent limitations of maritime broadband, requiring only 35 kbps bandwidth. Se@MeNow Messenger, a 'Video & VOIP' app for Android and Apple, is also currently being developed, and is expected to launch in time for Christmas.
"We are very excited to see the great interest from the seafarers and their loved ones on shore for the Se@MeNow platform,” said Jan Andre' Heggem, managing director of SMSGlobal.
“With the current steady growth of subscriber base we are expanding the range of interactive low data consuming features based on the needs of the seafarers and the ship owners."
