Hybrid GSM/VSAT service launched by NSSLGlobal

NSSLGlobal has launched its first-ever hybrid cellular/VSAT service for maritime vessels, the Cellular Marine System.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}This service will complement NSSLGlobal’s airtime VSAT offering, or other services such as FleetBroadband and Iridium Open Port, allowing seafarers to transfer from satellite to mobile connectivity while operating up to 25km offshore.

The Cellular Marine System will provide maritime vessels close to shore with download speeds of up to 100 Mbps, and is supported by a mobile roaming service established through a major global cellular operator, to provide coverage in different regions.

“NSSLGlobal constantly strives to innovate and create differentiated products and services that enable its customers to get the optimal connectivity they need at an affordable rate. This is the premise behind our new NSSLGlobal Cellular Marine System,” said Henrik Christensen, group maritime sales director, NSSLGlobal.

“With ‘constant connectivity’ an ever-increasing need for ship operations and crew welfare, we need to ensure we provide fast and flexible access to internet services. By giving our customers the option to switch between VSAT and 3G/4G mobile connectivity, they can now get high-speed internet at the most cost-effective rate.”

NSSLGlobal’s new 3G and 4G services will sit alongside its maritime VSAT IP@SEA offering, which offers Ku- and C-band connectivity via six global teleports, supporting 24 satellite beams and two network operation centres.{/mprestriction}
