MarineFields and Inmarsat have signed an MOU to partner in the development of technologies to make port calls more efficient, with a focus on areas such as information sharing, situational awareness, optimised processes, and collaborative decision making.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The joint effort will ultimately aim to provide a marketplace for port call optimisation services via MarineField’s Perseus PortCDM, which the companies say will connect the various stakeholders connected with sea transport, including vessels, shipping companies, ports, terminals, and hinterland operators.

Enhanced standardised data sharing will be a key element of this process, to enable third party providers to more easily introduce new services to the maritime industry, the companies said.

“We hope that this will develop into a long-term, fruitful cooperation” said Socrates Theodossiou, managing director, MarineFields.

“The main objective of this partnership is to make informed collaborative decisions by shared information while at the same time providing all stakeholders in the port call process the opportunity to develop innovative services and applications.”

Perseus PortCDM will utilise Inmarsat’s satellite network infrastructure in the provision of these services, specifically Fleet Xpress and FleetBroadband.{/mprestriction}
