Eniram joins Project Forward

Wärtsilä subsidiary Eniram has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Athens-based Arista Shipping to participate in the Project Forward initiative, under which it will assist in the development of monitoring and optimisation tools for a highly energy efficient dry bulk carrier vessel design, based on LNG-fuelled propulsion.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}The project aims to design a vessel complying with all relevant known, applicable, and anticipated regulations proposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), including the Energy Efficiency Design Index 2025, SOx post 2020, and NOx Tier III, without any after treatment.

Eniram’s systems will be used for data modelling to provide accurate to improve efficiency on board the new ship, enabling the operator to predict, monitor, optimise, and demonstrate the actual performance of the vessels.

“We are delighted to be a part of this exciting project, which will create a vessel with the levels of performance and sustainability needed as the marine industry enters a new era. Our input will help ensure that operational visibility will be maximised, and that the new ships can operate at optimal efficiency,” said Giannis Moraitakis, E&A business & sales development manager, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions.

Wärtsilä will also provide two 31DF dual-fuel engines to the project, while Finnish ship designer Deltamarin, classification society ABS, and French LNG membrane containment system designer GTT are also involved.

Arista Shipping has signed a Letter of Intent with Yangzijiang Shipbuilding to build a series of up to 20 bulk carriers based on the new design.{/mprestriction}
