The Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) is preparing the launch of digital certificates via a new app, allowing seafarers to access their certificates quickly and easily.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}Development is underway, and an initial test voyage will begin later this month. Once available, the digital certificates are expected to be a welcome change for those with experience in handling many pieces of paper used for documentation for seafarers today.

One app will be used to access and maintain seafarer certificates. The app will enable seafarers to store, view, and share their data via the app. The ships’ master and the shipping company will also have access to their crews’ certificates via the app. Data will be easy to present to maritime and port authorities prior to port calls, which has great potential for streamlining the often burdensome procedures of ship-port interface.

A pilot project is beginning in May 2019 with launch expected for the end of 2019.{/mprestriction}
