ABB upgrades Tekomar XPERT for fleet-wide use

ABB Ability Tekomar XPERT is now available for use on a fleet-wide scale ABB Ability Tekomar XPERT is now available for use on a fleet-wide scale

ABB Turbocharging has upgraded its digital platform ABB Ability Tekomar XPERT for use on a fleet-wide scale.

{mprestriction ids="1,2"}ABB Ability Tekomar XPERT for fleet provides insight into engine performance from fleet to vessel level with an easy-access web portal interface. Tekomar XPERT for fleet incorporates all standard features found in the original Tekomar XPERT application with additional fleet functionality specifically developed to support middle and top management decisions.

When installed on every vessel in a fleet, Tekomar XPERT can quantify deviations in engine performance and provide simple guidance on running engines at optimum levels of efficiency. The software also offers recommended corrective actions for the realisation of potential fuel oil savings.

Deviations from actual service performance to shop trial reference are converted to a fuel penalty. This fuel penalty is broken down in reference to single parameters. For each parameter there is a recommended action to bring the performance back to optimum and realise the fuel oil saving.  Following the advice provided by the software can result in significant fuel savings of typically 0.5 to 3 tons of fuel per day, per vessel.

The advanced diagnostics, combined with the sharing the information with onshore office, also allows ship operators to immediately focus on fixing potential problems, rather than initially spending many hours analysing them.

Tekomar XPERT for fleet allows company-wide engine performance assessment with controlled and consolidated analysis across a fleet. It facilitates the benchmarking and ranking of engines, vessels and fleets and the user-friendly dashboard can be customised according to role.

“Tekomar XPERT for fleet makes keeping an overview on engine performance easy undertaking for fleet managers, ship operators and owners. This smart digital solution with the newly introduced Engine Health Index offers marine customers an instant overview of their entire fleet. Whether an operator oversees five ships or many more across an international fleet, they can benchmark their fleets, ships and engines and quickly drilldown into more details to identify potential low performers or late reporters, Tekomar XPERT for fleet takes away the time consuming analysis of engine performance and allows operators to immediately focus on fixing problems to reduce fuel consumption and minimizes downtime and maintenance costs,” said Beat Güttinger, head of Tekomar for ABB Turbocharging.

Tekomar XPERT can be used with any marine main and auxiliary engine, irrespective of manufacturer, type, age or size. There is no hardware to install and the application can be dropped into the shipping company’s normal IT system, accessible via PCs, tablets and mobiles.

Tekomar XPERT is subscription-based smart web solution, that is available through ABB Ability. More than 1,400 vessels have been equipped with Tekomar XPERT to-date.{/mprestriction}

  • Voyager PLANNING STATION gets major update

    Voyager Worldwide has announced a major upgrade to its Voyager PLANNING STATION navigation software. The new version features enhanced automation of route and passage planning, information sharing between ship and shore and new interactive guided workflow processes to reduce operational risk and streamline navigation processes.

    Voyager PLANNING STATION now automatically delivers digital and paper Notices to Mariners on board as soon as they available. Updates are transmitted via a secure link direct from Voyager Worldwide straight to the Voyager PC onboard to ensure vessels always have the latest information and prevent compliance issues.

    To complement the new fully automated update process, the size of the quarterly AVCS Admiralty Information Overlay update has been reduced by more than 85 per cent from 25MB to an average of 3MB to make ECDIS updating easier, faster and more cost-effective. The result is very simple fully automated electronic delivery of all updates and New Editions and smaller, more cost-effective data downloads that, together, remove any residual need to send physical CDs or DVDs to ships.

    “With its new levels of automation and enhanced user experience, this new version of Voyager PLANNING STATION provides comprehensive visibility of vessels against their planned routes and seamless distribution, updating and management of the data needed for e-Navigation. The result is better operational oversight that helps ship managers to safely and more efficiently manage their vessels and provides a faster, easier way for the bridge team to meet PSC and vetting requirements,” said Voyager Worldwide CEO, Kent Lee.

    In addition, a new built-in port to port routeing function enables users to select their departure and arrival port and generate a route. Routes automatically appear on either ENCs or Voyager’s integrated GIS map making it easy to refine waypoints to meet specific voyage requirements before clicking to identify and order the ENCs and other products needed for safe and compliant passage.

    For shore-based users who want to more clearly understand vessel status compared to the planned voyage, the enhanced Route sharing module now automatically uploads saved routes to Voyager FLEET INSIGHT, Voyager Worldwide’s web platform to allow ship management to monitor vessels on a 24/7 basis. Using Voyager FLEET INSIGHT, vessels can be monitored on a PC in the office as well as on the go via a tablet and smartphone.

    To provide better visibility of vessels’ compliance status and help reduce ECDIS and ENC related PSC observations and deficiencies, Voyager PLANNING STATION also now shows the details of when the ECDIS was last updated and shows when updates have not been applied. Voyager FLEET INSIGHT also enables vessels’ ENC, paper chart and publication orders to be viewed as an overlay on planned routes to enable more efficient order checking and approval and help reduce unnecessary purchasing.
