Roger Adamson, CEO, Futurenautics
Roger currently works for Futurenautics, a new, wholly independent, information resource specifically designed to identify relevant technology trends—and importantly—contextualise them for the shipping and maritime industry. Across a range of digital, print and live platforms, Futurenautics provides leading-edge, thought-provoking multi-media content, features and comment designed to encourage shipping and maritime leaders to ask questions of themselves and their organisations that will begin equipping them for the road to 2030 and beyond.
Roger is also chairman for International Maritime Sales & Marketing Association, a global non-profit organization. IMASMA provides a range of resources, support, and representation for all those who are involved in or have an interest in the way the maritime industry markets, sells, promotes and communicates. It works to fund and provide educational and training resources to upskill current maritime business personnel and to encourage fresh talent into the industry. Capt. Mohit Batra, Managing Director, Singapore Maritime Network
Capt. Mohit Batra is astute business professional and a proactive leader with over two decades of diverse cross-functional experience within the maritime industry. He is currently the Managing Director of Singapore Maritime Network. An avid golfer, enthusiastic professional speaker, educator and humorous presenter, he has been involved in various aspects of the maritime business from startup ventures and spearheading marketing/sales strategies, to implementing effective supply chain solutions, identifying growth opportunities and advising on investment strategies. He has held senior level positions before this with a leading American classification society, a British research & consulting firm and a leading safety company from Europe. He is a qualified Master Mariner and holds a MBA from Oxford, UK.
Ken Coffey, MD, International, Applied Satellite Engineering
Ken Coffey is based in Ireland and manages the International operations for Applied Satellite Engineering (ASE) - a company based in the US. Ken, an engineer, along with his team, was instrumental in developing the “Citadel Solution” - a satellite phone communication system that exceeds the recommendations set forth by IMO’s “Best Management Practices 4” for combating Somali-Based Piracy. He will be presenting on the unique challenges of the installation and operation of a satellite phone in a safe room, or the Citadel. This includes a “stealth” installation, cable routing, antenna placement and battery backup, and crew training. He will also be discussing other features that can work with the land-based IT personnel such as terminal “health” and position reporting. He will discuss various options available for ship’s owners and operators.
He will be demonstrating the real-time viewing of position, speed, and heading and other features inside the citadel.
Peter Davies, Chief Technology and Marketing Officer, Pole Star
Peter joined Pole Star in January 2013 with over thirty years’ experience working in high technology businesses. His role combines the positions of Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Technology Officer, reflecting his experience working in Product Marketing – creating new business cases and his experience working with software development – delivering new Software as a Service products.Peter is responsible for managing an international team, which includes product marketing, software development and marketing.
He brings a depth of expertise and experience to the organisation, having in the past created and implemented innovative strategies to generate strong business growth, brand and market share for market leaders like Apple, Kodak, Motorola and Experian. He has international experience working in European, USA, Middle East and Asian markets and has led product marketing, marketing communications and software development teams. He has an MBA from Henley Business School where his final dissertation was on high growth technology businesses.
Dr Ruanthi De Silva, Founder/Director, SCM PLUS
Founder/CEO of SCM PLUS (Pvt) Limited - Singapore, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka, a Company focusing on OPEX efficiency. Ruanthi was the immediate past Group Corporate Director of Supply Chain Management at BSM Group which manages over 650 ships.
She carries over 40 years of senior management experience with international blue-chip Companies covering strategic planning, finance, business process reengineering, and operations.
Ruanthi holds a Doctorate from the University of Newcastle in Australia and an MBA from the University of Hull in UK. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants of UK.

Vinod George, Senior Marine Superintendent, SeaTeam Management
Vinod started his sea career as a cadet with Wilhelmsen (formerly Barber Ship Management) in 1992. Vinod has sailed with them on various types of vessels including Car Carriers, Bulk Carriers, Self Unloaders and in the later years mainly on Tankers and OBO’s.
Vinod previously worked with International Tanker Management on the Frontline fleet vessels from 1998 to 2010 progressing from 2nd Mate to Master.
In 2010 he moved to SeaTeam which was started as an in house management company of Frontline Group and Golden Ocean.
In January 2011 he moved ashore with SeaTeam and was based out of their Chennai office as the Training Superintendent / Quality Safety Coach. Vinod was responsible for implementation of the Quality Safety Campaign (Human Factor Project of FRONTLINE) on the Tanker and Bulk fleet. Vinod was responsible for on board training of staff on using Crew resource management and the human element for safe and efficient on-board operations.
Vinod was promoted to Training Manager in 2012 and was responsible for all training matters related to Sea staff for the Oil Tanker and Product Tankers, administration of the Chennai training Centre and on board training together with being the QS Coach.
In 2014 Vinod moved to SeaTeam Singapore as Senior Marine Superintendent and part of the HSQE department. Involved in day to day operations of the fleet with the main focus on quality and safety matters and giving commercial assistance as and when required to the Masters.
Rudy Hageman, CEO, Pearlchain
Rudy Hageman is the founder and CEO of PearlChain, which began operations in 2004. PearlChain is Rudy’s third successful Software venture with the same core Management Team over a twenty five year period. Rudy became the first Belgian Entrepreneur of the Year as the founder of Real Software, having started his career in IT at Hewlett Packard and founded Delaware Computing in 1981. Rudy’s insights are based on nearly three decades of experience in the IT-world.
Ohad Harlev, Chief Operating Officer, World-Link Communications
Ohad joined World-Link with a number of years of experience in leading positions in the industry. Prior to joining World-Link he was President of RRSAT Americas and Managing Director of Mobile Satellite Services at RRSAT (Station 711).
Prior to joining RRSAT, Ohad served as Corporate and General Counsel for publicly traded companies on NASDAQ, AIM and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and for several high tech companies in the private sector. Ohad served as a corporate counsel at Amdocs (NASDAQ DOX) and as general counsel of Gilat Satcom (traded on the TASE and AIM).
Ohad holds an LLB in Law and an MBA from The Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) in Israel both cum laude, and is a member of the Israeli Bar.
Kyle Hurst, Director Maritime Business, Iridium
Kyle has 17 years' experience in the maritime satellite communication sector. Before joining Iridium as Director, Maritime Business in March 2015, Kyle worked for Station711 and before that as Director of Market development at Thuraya and was also previously Maritime Marketing manager for Inmarsat in London, specialising in product development and the application of satellite communications in the maritime market. His experience extends to working as a Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS) Manager for the Pacific Islands ForumFisheries Agency in the Solomon Islands. A native Australian, he has also held a number of leadership positions at the Queensland Department of Primary Industries. Kyle was also a soldier in the Australian Army (Engineer Corps) and grew up working with his family in a number of commercial fisheries on the South East Coast of Australia.
Chris Insall, Senior Principal Product Manager, Maritime Services, Intelsat
At Intelsat and in various previous roles Chris Insall has been associating with The Digital Ship since its inception, focusing on maritime satellite communications and IT solutions.
From 2011 to 2014, Chris worked as Commercial Programmes Manager for Cobham SATCOM, incorporating maritime antenna brands Sea Tel and Sailor.
Prior to Cobham, Chris was at Inmarsat for 11 years with roles encompassing maritime business and product management – major responsibilities included deployment of Inmarsat’s flagship Fleet and FleetBroadband product portfolios.
Chris holds an MSc degree in Software Engineering and a BA degree in business and foreign languages, and is based in London, UK.
Ken Gregers Larsen, IT Project Manager, Maersk Tankers
Ken is currently on assignment as project manager with Maersk Tankers, where he is responsible for a fleet wide implementation of advanced satellite communication. In this capacity he has been responsible for all aspects of the project from the pilot phase to fleet wide rollout. He has been heading project and support organizations within a Danish software company developing ESDH products for Danish defense, ministries and other government agencies. He was Corporate IT manager for a larger Danish manufacturing company with worldwide production and representation and Intl. Service Manager within a leading Danish manufacturer of Medical electronics. Ken has also spent a couple of years working with service and development in USA.
In 2008, Ken received his Masters degree in IT & Organization from Aarhus University in Denmark.
Setyo Nugroho, Dept. of Marine Transport, Faculty of Marine Technology, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya (ITS)
Dr. Setyo Nugroho is currently the vice dean of the Faculty of Marine Technology, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), Surabaya, Indonesia. His doctoral research on the implementation of artificial intelligence for decision making in chartering and ship operations. With his team, he has developed an array of software, a.o. stowage planning, transport simulation, and planned maintenance system. Currently, he is deeply involved in the Digital Island project, to adopt ICT as soft-infrastructure for remotely located small island in Macassar Strait, Indonesia. He obtained his master of science degree from the Technical University Delft, The Netherlands and his doctoral degree from the Technical University Berlin, Germany.
Sharon Ong, Key Account Manager, Airbus Defence and Space
Sharon Ong is a Key Account Manager responsible for the development of business in the Asia-Pacific region for Airbus Defence and Space, the global innovative provider of satellite enabled solutions.
Sharon has a successful academic background including a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Queensland University of Technology and a double major in Data Communications and Information Systems. Furthermore, she completed a diploma in 2002 in Internet Computing, Data Communications and Networks.
Prior to joining Airbus Defence and Space, she started her career as an IT Consultant, where she was responsible for providing consulting services for application solutions and software.
Sharon joined Airbus Defence and Space in 2009. With over 9 years’ experience in the IT sector and with her strong knowledge and experience in IT and data communications, Sharon is able to offer valuable advice and support and as part of the Singapore Sales team, helps to reinforce the leadership position of Marlink and Airbus Defence and Space in maritime satellite communications.
Michael Owen, Head of Customer Acquisition, Airbus Defence and Space
Michael Owen is the Head of Customer Acquisitions for Airbus Defence and Space Maritime division, specializing in Satellite Communications.
Mr. Owen has 20 years’ experience in technology sales management with companies ranging from small businesses to large multi-national corporations. The length of his career has been focused on solving problems with technical solutions ranging from software development to infrastructure solutions with a focus on business critical environments. Michael holds a M.B.A. in International Management from the University of Denver. He resides in Norway with his wife and two children.
Sankar Ragavan, IT Director, BSM
Sankar Ragavan is a seasoned technology professional with more than 25 years of experience in software development, project management, IT infrastructure, and IT strategy. Sankar is an entrepreneur with experience in founding & developing IT focused companies, and brings heavy experience in consulting with several industry verticals.
Sankar is currently the Managing Director of MariApps Marine Solutions, Singapore, providing quality marine solutions to ship owning and ship management companies across the globe. MariApps PAL e3 marine solution is running on more than 400 ships and is used by thousands of users. Ivan Renette, Application Portfolio Manager, Exmar Shipmanagement
Ivan Renette has worked at Exmar for 18 years, holding different positions and currently as Application Portfolio Manager. He graduated as Industrial Engineers Electro-Mechanics. He holds an Executive Master degree in Business Process Management from Vlerick Business School. His expertise is in the applications area, more specifically in the maintenance and purchasing domain. Ivan is a member of the Exmar Shipmanagement PMO team, the centre of Excellence optimising Business processes and leading projects.
Ingolf Saetrevik, Director Global Sales and Marketing, Palantir AS
Ingolf Saetrevik holds the position of Director Global Sales at Palantir AS, a Norwegian company delivering IT&C services to the maritime industry. The KeepUp@Sea product has been in the market for 12 years, and is considered an industry standard approach to cope with the specific challenges in delivering IT-products and –services towards a fleet of vessels, operating on a global basis. Currently, approximately 1.000 vessels have signed up for services delivered from Palantir AS.
Dr Pierre C. Sames, Chairman of Vessels for the Future and Director of Maritime Technology and R&D, DNV GL
Pierre C Sames holds the current position of Director Technology and R&D at DNV GL. He is responsible for coordinating all technical research and development projects for the maritime business area. His previous experience includes managing research, rule development and regulatory affairs at GL, as well as research on hydrodynamic extreme loads, risk analysis, shipping emissions and LNG as ship fuel. He joined GL in 1995 after studying naval architecture in Hamburg.

Neville Smith, Director, Mariner Communications
Neville Smith is a maritime media consultant with shipping industry clients across communications, navigation, IT and marine products and services. A maritime journalist for 16 years and a former deputy editor of daily maritime newspaper Lloyd’s List, he works for clients on messaging, positioning and campaign delivery across print and electronic media as well as blogging at www.maritimeinsight.com on current and future trends in communications and technology.
Capt. Rohit Talwar, Group HSSEQ Manager, Thome Ship Management
Rohit currently works as a Group HSSEQ (Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality Assurance) Manager. Responsible for HSSEQ activities related to Tanker Fleet (Asphalt, Chemical, Product and Gas Tankers), Bulker Fleet (Cape size, Panamax, Handy Size; Geared and Non-Geared), Oil and Gas Fleet (FPSO and FSU) and Off-Shore Fleet (OSV, PSC, AHTS, Accommodation and other barges). A Scandinavian owned company with offices based in Singapore, Croatia, Manila and Jakarta.
Previously Rohit worked at Esteemed Ship management (Tankers and Bulkers), as Marine Superintendent in February 2007 with a steady growth to Group HSSEQ Manager within the same organization.
Eugene Teo, Senior Manager, Symantec Security Response
Eugene Teo heads a multi-functional security team at Symantec, focusing on attack investigations and content engineering. He is also an adjunct lecturer at a local university. Prior to Symantec, he was a senior member of Red Hat’s product security team where he played a pivotal role in investigating and managing security vulnerabilities reported in the Linux kernel and the supported platform virtualization software. He led the global cloud and virtualization BU security team. He was also a member of the upstream Linux kernel security team. Prior to Red Hat, he has worked for the Singapore government, including the Ministry of Defense, focusing on computer security.
Eugene's experience in the computer security field lends strong credibility to his views on cybersecurity. He has been invited to speak at numerous conferences including the CENS Cybersecurity Workshop, Symantec Security Symposium, Symantec CIO Engage, APCERT Conference, SyScAN and ISACA's IT Governance, Security & Assurance Conference.
Eugene holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computing from the National University of Singapore. His professional certifications include CISM, RHCE, RHCA, RHCSS, RHCDS, and RHCVA.
Adonis Violaris, Marketing Director, Interorient Marine Services
Mr. Adonis Violaris is the Chairman of the ICT Sub-Committee of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber and until recently the Managing Director of Telaccount Overseas Ltd with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement. Mr. Violaris holds an MBA in Business Administration from Freie Universität in Berlin. Throughout his education and professional experience, he maintains close links with the IT and Communications Industry and is one of the main speakers at various IT and Communications conferences. With regard to his service role, Mr. Violaris is involved at national and local levels in Marketing, and Information and Communication Technologies. He serves as the Chairman of the ICT Sub-committee of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber for the last 15 years.
